Question
QUESTION: my beardie is 6 wks old we've only had it 2wks he'll sit on our hand and feed well but when his feed he runs and hides in a plastic plant in his viv is it normal for babies BD to hid like this

ANSWER: Hello Sandra,

Babies do like to hide but some take longer than others to break out of their shyness.  He should be getting more comfortable with his tank setup soon.
What type of lighting are you using?  Do you use a flourescent tube bulb or a compact/coil light for the UVB lighting?
What are the temperatures in the tank, & what type of thermometer do you use to measure the temperatures with?  A stick on type, a digital probe or a temp gun?

Answer
Hello Sandra,

What brand of flourescent tube UVB is it, the brand should be stamped on the base of the bulb.
The stick on type of thermometer will not be very accurate for measuring the basking temperatures.  You will need to get a digital probe or a temp gun?
The ranges for the basking area should be 95-110 while the cooler end needs to only be around 78-82.  They are pretty particular about their temperatures & if they are off, they will not do as well as they should.
The heat lamp, is it a bright white one, or a colored one?
They do take a little while to completely get used to their tank setup & a new home.  Try to get a new thermometer to make sure the temperatures are where they need to be.  Also, let me know the brand of your UVB tube.
Thanks!
