Question
I have an old slate bottom tank that I am using with my leopard gecko and I also Have some calci sand as a substrate but was wondering if the sand was a good idea or if I should use the slate bottom instead and was wondering on how to heat this tank?

Answer
Hello Joshua,

The calcium based sand is not a good idea to use as substrate for geckos.  I would stick with the slate tiles.  You can get an undertank heater to use on one end for him, along with a low wattage basking light to get a hot spot of around 88-90.
You could use tile for half of the tank & colored felt on the end with the undertank heater to make sure he stays warm enough on his little belly.
