Question
Hi I am considering some bunnies as pets but am wondering......

can a group live together?

would they have to be spayed/neutered?

If they were going to have to be spayed/neutered would they all get along after I took them one by one to a vet to be spayed? would theybe able to live with each other right after they are spayed/neutered?

What would be the best combantaion males, females, a male & females or males & females? also would it be possible to add anoter to the group later on... after all are spayed/neutered?

Also how long do rabbits live on avrage..... the ones I would be getting a dwarf crosses, I don't know what there crossed with.... also at what age do they become sexualy mature so I know when to get them spayed/neutered?

Answer
Hi!

A group of rabbits can live happily together, but they must be introduced very carefully (rabbits can fight ferociously, and can even inflict life-threatening wounds on each other!) and they MUST be spayed/neutered.  Please see:

and also read the articles here:

so you'll know what's involved in bonding rabbits.

The best plan would be to find your local rabbit rescuer, and have that person help you bond the rabbits who are best suited to be pals.  They will already be spayed/neutered, so you won't have that worry or expense.

A well cared for rabbit who is spayed/neutered and lives indoors where it's safe and the human family can carefully monitor health can live 10 years or more.  Dwarf mixes seem especially hardy, and can live into their teens.  A lot depends on genes, husbandry, and just plain luck.

Rabbits reach sexual maturity at 4-6 months of age.  This is another reason to adopt, rather than buy:  you won't have to worry or spend the money on these surgeries, and then deal with any personality problems afterwards due to hormonal changes.

I hope this helps.  Please write back if you have any other questions.
