dutch male urinating

Question
Why is my 4 year old neutered male dutch urinating everywhere except in the litter box? He lives with his mom and we have had from birth, this came on just about a few weeks ago and has progressed into a real problem, they both live indoors and have their own bedroom.

Answer
Dear Patricia,

When an adult bunny who has previously had good literbox habits starts doing this, my first suspicion is a health problem, and particularly a urinary tract problem.  Please read:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/urinary.html

along with the links to culture and sensitivity testing.

Is the mother spayed?  If not, he could be picking up on her fluctuating hormones, and responding by marking territory.  But I would rule out a health problem, first.

You can find a good rabbit vet here:

I hope this helps.  Please write back if you have any other questions.
