Question
Hi, I suspect that my rabbit is infected by fur mites (hair loss and flaky skin), I heard that you can use either ivermectin or selamectin, I wonder which one is more effective..And less expensive?
And I'm a student, I don't have that much money, so I want to know how much money it will cost me if i go to the vet to treat my rabbit?

Answer
Dear Irene

I found your question in the Question Pool here today, where another expert had placed it.  Sorry for the delay, but I only now got this query.

Cost of veterinary treatment varies tremendously with geographic region, so the best way to find out the cost of a vet visit is to call around. But be sure the vet you choose is experienced with rabbits:

We use only Revolution (selamectin) for mite control.  It's topical and very safe and easy to use. Please see:

Selamectin is much more effective than ivermectin, especially for fur mites, though a bit more expensive.

Hope this helps.
