How do I help a mewborn whose mother wont go near it?

Question
My rabbit was runnign around the kitchen and gave birth.  I had no idea she was pregnant and I am worried that the baby may not make it because she will not even go near it.  What can I do to help it?

Answer
Susan,
put the mother and babies into her cage, give the mom some nesting materials like straw or hay...she'll make a place for them, and try not to bother them too much for the first few days.  the smell will turn her off her babies if they're fondled too much.  (I know you have to put them in the cage though)before you do this, rub the mother to get her smell on your hands.  Mother rabbits only feed their babies once a day in the beginning,so it might look like she's lost interrest, but she hasn't.  put them together in a safe, quiet place, and they'll be ok.  good luck,Elizabeth
ps let me know how it goes...   :)
