Rabbit going for operation

22 10:42:45

Question
I have a male rabbit who is about 6 to 7 months of age, and is going for a neutering operation. I have friends who used to have rabbits, but die almost immediately after operation. I am afraid that my rabbit will also die after the operation.
Is there anything I can do to prevent its death?

Answer
Dear Angela,

The key is to have an experienced rabbit vet who really knows what to do and has a high success rate in this surgery.  You can find such a vet here:

www.rabbit.org/vets

To read about proper pre- and post-operative care, please go here:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/opcare.html

but be sure the vet does a complete wellness check beforehand, to be sure the bunny is a good candidate for surgery.  No surgery is 100% risk free, but this is a minor proceure, and if you prepare properly, he should be just fine.

I hope this helps.
