Question
A couple months ago my rabbit had symptoms of ear mites. we treated them ourselves and they went away but now he has them, this time worse, and they are in his ears, on his back, neck and stomach also. He also has started walking strangely and he sometimes looks like he is falling asleep. Do you think that this is ear mites or something else? Also do you think that his strange walking and sleepy state are related problems?

Answer
Hello Hannah !
Well I hope you rabbit is going to be OK. Ear mite is a problem that get worst as it progresses. You can use baby old, cooking oil, or castor oil to treat your rabbit, you have to pour  the oil into the ear and really soak all the scabs, (ear mite look like dried up scabs in the ear  and it starts in way down in the bottom of the ear canal.)
as is progresses it fills up the entire ear and this is when it get bad  the rabbit will loose its balance and walk funny like you described. treat you rabbit daily until the scabs are all gone  and then 3 days aftre that. then follow up once a week for 4 weeks this should rid your rabbit of the mites.
The most important thing to do is clean out your rabbits hutch (hopefully it is a all wire cage ) if not you need to try and keep  you rabbit in a all wire cage while treating it . Because a wire cage can be disinfected eaiser than a wooden hutch. if you don`t have a all wire cage  you can spray down you hutch with water  and then a mixture of 1/4 cup bleach and 2 gal water will kill any thing that may be in the wooden cracks and hard to get places. spray it down good  and let it stay for 30 min. then rinse it down good with a string stream of water. let it dry completely before you put the rabbit back in. you may need to do this once a month.
Good luck...
