Question
Hello, i am Christina Kielczewska and i am getting a new bunny. This is going to be my first pet, so i need to ask some questions about the outdoor lives of bunnies.

1. Which breeds of rabbits can be outdoor ones-for summer and winter)
2. Will my bunny die if it is outside in a wooden house?
3. My brother had many bunnies when he was younger, so he knows how to build the hutch, but im afraid the bunny will freeze during winter. Will it?
4. Will any predators attack my bunny at night?

Please, please, please answer my questions before i get my bunny which is 6/3/08. I am depending on your answers! And please make sure they are absolutely correct.I dont want my bunny to die! Ok, thankyou for all your help. I hope you answer the questions before the day i get him. I am starting to build the hutch now.

thank you!!!!!!!!!!!Christina :)

Answer
Hi Christina,
First off even if you follow good advice something can always go wrong. No one can guarantee your bunny's health. So ok here are my answers to your questions...
1. any rabbit can be out doors I have mini rex and there one of the best pet bunny's and show bunny's ever. They tend to get more hot in the summer cause there fur is denser it feels like velvet. If there going to be outside they need to be away from all drafts. Or they can get very sick.
2. no he will be fine as long as it doesn't get any drafts
3. no actually bunny's do better in the winter then they do in the summer. Bunny's cant sweat or pant. They regulate there temperature via there ears. Cooler is better for bunny's.
4. There is always that possibility. but there are precautions you can take. Is the bottom of your hutch going to have poo tray or is the poo just going to fall to the gorund? If you wanna decrease the chance of a predator getting to your bunny use a try that slides into the bottom of your hutch. I have heard (my bunny's are inside)of bunny's getting there toes bitten off thru the wire. Wild animals can startle your bunny. I know ALOT of people who have out door bunny's and there just fine just keep a eye out and you should be fine.
