Milky Urine, something to worry about?

22 10:09:22

Question
I noticed yesterday in my rabbit's cage that there was a urine spot that was a
milky yellow color, almost opaque looking. I've never noticed it being this
color or consistency before so I was just wondering if it was something to be
worried about? My rabbit is a 6 month old mini-lop I believe, or possibly a
holland lop, he is un-neutered, but I'm working on getting him neutered!
Also, another thing I've noticed is that since he has become sexually mature,
he occasionally makes snuffling noises. I was concerned at first but he only
does it when he is about to, or is trying to mount someone. Is there some
kind of rabbit mating call? Or is this something that I should get checked
out? Aside from the snuffling he is very active and social, and doesn't seem to
be ailed in any way.

Answer
Dear Rin,

Rabbits excrete excess calcium salts in their urine, and this often gives the pee a milky appearance.  It's nothing to worry about unless the urine leaves a thick, curry-colored residue that's the consistency of toothpaste.  That means bladder sludge, and that's a problem.  But that doesn't sound like what your bunny has.  Yours sounds pretty normal.

You're hearing his love oinking when he wants to hump something.  :)  It's a cute little buzz/love song, but it will subside once he's neutered.

You can find a good rabbit vet here:

Hope that helps.
