Follow up on the baby bunny with bumps

Question
Hi, I have gotten a phone call from the vet and she has told me that from the test results he has a mild staff infection and that the antibiotics he is on will help and that I will need to do a follow up appointment to check on it. Thank you for your help but he did not test positive for Pasteurella. Do you want me to tell you what else happens the next time I go to see the vet?

Answer
This is concerning because a staph infection IS a symptom of Pasteurella.

What concerns me more is that if the correct test was done to determine if it was Pasteurella or not, you would not have the results yet.  The collected tissue is grown in a lab and it takes a couple of weeks for the results.  Anything less, is not accurate

So while your bunny might have a staph infection, it may be because it has Pasteurella and not a stand alone staph infection.

Here is a link to an article that describes exactly how the test is done.

Keep a very, very good eye on the bunny.  My gut tells me that the antibiotics will help him feel better temporarily, but the underlying cause is still there and it will show up again in the future either in the way of another infection, an abscess mass or more sneezing/discharge.

Please keep me updated.
