rabbit has sore feet

Question
A couple of weeks ago my rabbit sarted to get red marks on the bottom of her feet.  they have not gotten bigger, or got infetcted (as I have been bathing them) the skin and she seams to have no difficulty in walking. They look a bit like a blister, one on each heal , very slightly swollen but no blood or anything.  I would prefer to treat her without taking her to a vet as she is pettrified (when I say that I mean panics completly - kicking, even banging into side of carry case if dog barks etc) when she goes and for something minor I would prefer not to stress her out?

What do you think it could be and is it normal? If not will bathing them be ok?

Please help, Emma

Answer
You did a good job catching this early.  If they were to open up and gotten infected, you'd have no choice to go to the vet for some treatment.

But since you caught it early, here's something you can try.  This site gives instructions on carefully wrapping your rabbits feet.  It has some good pictures to explain how to do it just right.

This site near the bottom also has another method for wrapping along with some medicinal treatments you can apply.  The instructions aren't near as detailed, but it's another method just in case the first one doesn't work out:

Hopefully with the wrapping, her feet will heal up just fine.

While that's taking place, you'll need to determine why this happened.
Some rabbit breeds are more predisposed to sore hocks.  For others, wire or hard cage flooring can cause the problem.  For others, urine scald can damage the bottom of the feet.
You can also add some soft bedding to her area, towels, or faux sheepskin.  This site sells a very high quality faux sheepskin.  They're very think and stand up to many washings.

As for your vet.  Do they ever allow clients to check in and then wait in their car until it's time?  My vet's office does this.  After people have checked in, they can wait and the staff will come get them when it's their turn.

Just something to think about.
Hope this info helps
