Question
Hello,
My 7 month old pig has been having accidents again. We let him out in the morning and in the early evening to go outside. He also has a litter box in his cage incase he needs to go while we are not home. Lately he has been going pee in the living room, bedroom, and directly next to his litter box. He was doing this a few months ago and he stopped when we started letting him outside more frequently. I don't know why he is having accidents again when nothing has changed in his daily schedule. How can we show him that he is misbehaving because in Priscilla's book it says you should not push and yelling stresses him out. Do you have any suggestions to correct this problem or any possible reasons he may be having accidents again. Thank you!

Answer
Hello,
Pigs need discipline too!
You can use a loud voice, stomp your feet or even give them a little swat on the rump.  I'm not talking much of a swat but enough to annoy them.  Is is sometimes the only way to get their attention
They are smart and very human like and you can treat them in similar ways.
I have used a squirt gun with water when you catch them not using the litter box.
A rolled up newspaper or fly swatter also works well.  Pigs are very tough little animals.  You won't hurt them.

If having the pig pee on your carpet stresses you out I suggest you try these techniques.
Hope this helps.
Good luck,
Patty
