Question
QUESTION: We are going to look at a litter of 5 week old mini pot belly pigs.  What are traits to look for in finding the "perfect" pig?
Thanks!

ANSWER:  The friendliest and most secure pig!
Size means little....the smaller ones usually catch up.
Look for personality, whether it be male or female.
You want straight legs, a piglet that walks well, is in proportion, and does not have hair standing on end,or is itching, or seems week.
And don't buy a pig that is supposed to be "tiny", HA!
Legs should be the same length, the piglet should not have legs that are touching...
You MUST buy our book, "Potbellied Pig Behavior and Training", do a search at amazon.com or buy it from us at valentinesperformingpigs.com.

QUESTION: Is 5 weeks old to young to be taken from its mother?  They are all eating pig food and drinking water without a prob.
Thanks again!

Answer
Ideally, the babies should not be placed until 7-8 weeks of age.
This gives the babies a more secure foundation, and time for more socialization and development.
It also depends upon how much work the breeder has put into making these piglets good pets.
Good luck,
Pris
