Lump on snout

Question
Our 8 week old mini pot belly came to us with mange mites which I have under control with Ivermectin but she developed a large soft lump just above her snout that seemed to appear suddenly. I think it's a contusion from all the scratching she was doing and was rubbing her face right before we noticed it. Just want to make sure it's not something else that may be common. She has had it for 3 days and has not gone down yet. Any ideas?

Answer
I am not a veterinarian and can not make a medical diagnosis over the internet. I can make a guess.

Pigs heal very quickly, and often develop swollen abscesses. This happens when the wound heals and dirt or bacteria are trapped under the skin. I suspect that is what has happened here. If she acts like it's itchy, it may be ready to pop. You can try applying a damp, warm cloth to it, but piggy make not like this.

Due to her young age, chances are this is not a cancer or an oral abscess. But, if it lasts more than a couple of weeks, the vet might need to take a look. Some flies can lay eggs just under the skin of a host animal. Normally this is not a problem with pigs because they have tough skin, but baby piglets can still be infected this way.
