rat behavior after surgery

21 17:59:50

Question
My rat had surgery today and had a tumor removed. To protect the stitches, a collar was fitted around her neck. She has been cleaning whatever she has been laid upon ever since I've returned home.

This is driving me nuts. I'm guessing it's just a natural thing as she can no longer clean herself, but I just need some confirmation on this.

Answer
So she is cleaning her bedding and things? I've never had a rat do that after surgery, but it sounds like a smart thing to do to me! Honestly, I don't think this is anything to worry about. As long as it doesn't escalate into any other odd behaviors, I'd say leave her. You can probably call your vet as well if you have other post-surgery questions.
