Question
I have 3 rats; Rattypatty, a female albino rat about a 16 months old, Grim a male is lik 14months he's brown and white. and Blaze a black and white female, who was their baby, that was 11 months.
Blaze and ratty patty share a large wire cage with a plastic bottom, and grim has his own small cage, hes really fat so he has free run of the the top of the 2 cages and a shelf wit some books on it. I use pine bedding, the white kind. I feed them Cereal, fruit, bread an butter, yougurt, chips, peanut butter, dog/cat food and everything i eat. i share my food with them. I feed them every day, they allways have food, everything everyone in this house eats. they are spoiled they wont eat bread without butter.
But anyway i fed them at like 7pm and left to stay with my
boyfriend for the night. i come home after work at 5pm the next day....  Ratty Patty and Blaze were dead. Blaze was on her back with blood coming from her mouth, Ratty patty was laying beside her on her belly wit blood coming out of her mouth, they were very stiff. Grim was on the top shelf, he was fine.
What do you think happen? there is no was it was anything in my room, otherwise grim would have died.
i clean their cages often with dish soap, i cleaned it 2 days before they died. I even wipe down the wires on the cages. I do clean the top shelf with bathroom cleaner, because grim pees on it... but i wipe it down wit a clean wet cloth to be sure there are no chemicals, I've done it for a year now.
none of them were nutered. I got Ratty patty from a store in the mall, and blaze was born in my home. Grim was a present i'm not sure where he came from probley a random pet store. no one else in my family plays with them, no one likes them.
Ratty Patty went to the vet a few month ago for ingrown teeth, they were cuttin into her gums, they knocked her out for that.
I don't understand what happen do you think it could have been posion?

Answer
Ah I'm sorry for your loss.. honestly though.. I couldn't tell you without having a necropsy performed and looking at the results. If Grim was fine, you're right, it wasn't anything environmental. The fact that both of them died simutaneously is very concerning, though, and highly unusual. I would suggest a URI, however that would have shown symptoms that you would have seen beforehand. I doubt it was poison.. with blood coming out of their mouths, it was either trauma (i.e; head trauma), a massive fight, or some sort of encephilitis/stroke/annuyerism.. I'm stumped, though. You may be able to point this question at Sandra Todd and get a more decisive answer, but I would suggest a necropsy to be sure of their COD.
