Hairless rat problem

QUESTION: I got a hairless rat about 2 weeks ago. I think she is maybe a few months old. Shes small maybe the size of a Claussen Pickle. One day she started having seizures and losing weight, She is very skinny we are hand feeding her baby food and water from an eye dropper. Any way we could put weight on her faster. Or is it ok to give pedialyte?

ANSWER: Pedialyte is ok to give but the seizures upset me. How did she act during these seizures?

She could have a brain tumor or epilepsy.  I would get her to the exotic vet right away and if you do not have one please allow me to help you find one ASAP!

QUESTION: I woke up one morning and her arms would straighten up and she seemed almost like she had major hick ups. She went to the corners of the cage and jumped like a jumping bean. Almost like she was blind. She is doing much better and we"ve been feeding her baby food. Seizures are not present and she is eating and drinking. Although she seems to be chattering her teeth when she eats. I looked at her teeth and the bottoms seem longer then the tops. Yet not very long. Maybe a quarter inch. Please let me know where to find a rat vet. Thanks so much!

The bottom teeth are supposed to be longer than the top btw.

How often did she have these seizures?  They do get hiccups too and they tend to stand in one place and its like a rhythmic pattern, almost like a robotic motion.  It lasts for a minute or longer. Maybe that is what your seeing?

Try offering her peas from the can and also some cheerios, puffed rice or puffed wheat, crushed watermelon....scramble her an egg and see how she likes that, too.

Anyhow let me know your location so I can give you some names of vets to see.

I am so so so so so sorr you lost her!!!!!   I lost your messages among a pile of mess so it took me till today to find them. I feel just terrible. I sent you one name of a vet in Pitt.  That is all there are unless you want me to try Ohio? again I am so sorry for your loss!
