My Rats Hurt Foot

Question
Hello, Last night I came home to one of my rats (Katie) was sticking half way out of her new cage between the bars, stuck at the hip. Her foot was also lodged between the thick wire bars. I am not sure how long she was stuck there, I had been at work all day. After getting her out she seemed to be fine except for back leg. After a few minutes she started using her hip and leg and this morning she was walking around on her foot, but her toes are not working. She has some black and blue spots on her ankle. She really seems to be doing fine, but I'm scared she will never get the use of her toes back. Do you think that she'll be ok? Could a vet visit do anything for her. She's my baby and I don't want her to hurt.

Answer
Even if she doesn't ever regain the use of her food; rats learn to adapt and can function with a handicap quite well. There's really nothing a vet can do for her unless it begins to swell massively or she's acting like she's in pain.

Good luck, hope Katie feels better!
