http://www.freewebs.com/crittercity/surgerysafteyrisks.htm

The URL above is to a web page on my website that I wrote just about a month ago. It is important for all rat owners to understand what the proper procedure is during surgery of any kind in order to ensure your rat will be getting the best care that they can possibly get.

Please check out my website and you will see on that I have a list of everything you need to ask the vet before surgery etc... and a check list of surgical tools that are needed and procedures that should be followed both before and after surgery in order to be sure the rat has the safest experience he can have.

As for neutering, ask the vet if he or she plans to do a scrotal neuter or an abdominal neuter.  Be sure the rat is going to be given narcotic pain medication to take at home and not just metacam. I explain why on my website.  Also be sure he will be given antibiotics to take post op as well.

Let me know if the web page gave you all the answers you needed and if not, please feel free to write back again.

I am here to help as much as possible.
