Solo rat care?

Question
Hello Sandra, one of my rats unfortunately succumbed to myco
yesterday, leaving his cage mate alone. He currently has a
URI which I am going to the vets tonight to have treated,
and I plan to get him two new playmates once I am positive
that the URI has gone. The problem is that it will probably
take at least two weeks of aggressive treatment to clear it,
and in the meantime the poor thing is lonely and depressed
without his friend. He is not a cuddly rat like his late
friend, and doesn't tolerate attempts to stroke or play with
him. Do you have any recommendations for things I can do to
keep him happier and more occupied during his recuperation?
Thanks alot, I really appreciate it! xxx

Answer
Now is the time to try to get him to warm up to you. talk to him, pet him, bribe him with baby foods.  My solo rat was not too thrilled with me either and he and I bonded so close after he lost his mates when he died last week I have yet to stop crying.
