QuestionHi Sandra,
I have a female rat. I'm not sure of her exact age, but she is not a baby. The other night my little brother was holding her, and notices a peanut M&M sized lump near her throat/chest. I'm really concerned that it may be a tumor. She is the sweetest rat ever, and I want to help her, if that is the case. I was wondering if you can give me details on what to look for to determine if it may be a tumor verses an abscess. Thank you so much!!
Abby
AnswerIf its an abscess, it will soften up, develop a crater or scab and will burst either on its own or with your help. Once this occurs, you will need to clean it out several times a day with saline solution and also add some antibiotic ointment to it. It will heal fine.
If its a tumor, dont worry, a good skilled vet that is very well versed in exotics can remove the tumor, no problem.
I can help find a good vet just let me know your location.
