Question
QUESTION: Hi

Well in reply to how heavy are my rats.  The sick girl is small and quite petite..barely a handful...shes probably under 500g...my boys are also not enormous but are well covered (not fat) they are probably both hitting 500g each or a bit over. I dont think I have a scale small enough at home to weigh them but my boys arnt as big as some white rats I have seen..I can comfortably hold them in one hand.

I just spoke to my vet..the drugs arrived ..but its not in powder form its a liquid as far as I can make out.???  I suppose I'll find out when I go pick it up..my vets also asked me to bring with me the printouts on all ratty medications that I got off the internet too...hopefully he will keep it on file for future little furry patients in need.

Regards

Jacqui

ANSWER: Ok thats good its liquid.

If the vet doesnt know the dose, let me know what strength it is...probably 125mg which means you would give your rats
60mg per pound every 12 hours.

QUESTION: Hi

Thanks for all your help.  I fetched the medicine yesterday...Its called Ceporex Oral drops..it comes in a powder form and you add water to the bottle and shake it and then the dosage is 0.1 ml twice a day..its bright orange and so far they are taking it (I mixed it with jam).  I have to keep it in the fridge.  It comes with a dropper which makes handling it easier.

The veterinary hospital I go to has 3 partners and a new guy..so now Im dealing with the young new guy who isnt taking offense what with me having him running around looking up medicines for me..he even asked for my printout of ratty drugs..AND then he phoned me after hours last night  (he was at a house call when I fetched the meds) to give me the dosage etc...hes really trying really hard..so I reckon in future I'll stick with him for my rats. Its funny but my  pets each have different vet preferences.  So it depends on whose sick as to whom I book with.

Jacqui

Answer
That sounds alot like the keflex I am giving them....and he likes it alot too.....they grab the syringe and suck it down!!

My rats take .6mls twice a day.  Either mine is super weak (125mgs) or my rats are mooses...well they are big boys actually....check out how big one of them is here:
