Question

Lump on rats cheek
Hi, a couple of days ago i noticed a lump on one of my female rats (white 1 1/2 year old) right cheek so i took her to the vet as soon as i could. The man felt it and said it is a swollen/blocked lymph gland, he gave me antibiotics (one drop twice daily) and said if it doesn't go away there is not much else he could do, he also said that white rats are more likely to get tumors and at her age he wouldn't be comfortable operating on her. It hasn't changed her in anyway she is still happy, eating and drinking fine. It looks like it has gotten a little bigger. What happens if it gets bigger? I have added a picture of the lump.

Answer
Hi Chelsea
Sounds like your vet is not very up to par with rats. For starters your rat is FAR from being too old to operate.  We operate on rats that are 3 years old as long as they are healthy enough for the surgery. I also am not sure if this is a just a swollen lymph gland either but the vet did not know what to call it.
Please go to my website and see if this resembles what your rat has at all:
