pet rat foot problem

My rats two back feet have a sore on them, and one foot is very swollen.  I have disinfected the sores and want to know if I should use heat or ice to bring down the swelling.  I don't think the foot is broken.

You've done the right thing in trying to disinfect the feet.

This sounds like the culprit. Bumblefoot is fairly common. For now I would also keep him/her off of any metal/wire floors in the cage and keep the litter very clean (maybe change to newspaper or paper towel for a while).
