My old pet rat

Question
I believe my 2+ year old pet rat has an upper respiratory infection. I am having him looked at by a vet tomorrow. But afterwards,I want to feed him something different than his normal hard food, because he is having trouble eating his hard food. Do you have any suggestions for me? I heard that baby food works. But what kinds should I feed him? Thanks so much for your time. Ashley

Answer
Hi

He doesnt want to eat because its more energy to chew hard food when they have a respiratory infection. baby food is great and it is also a great source of water in case they are not drinking.  You can offer sweet potatoes (my rats LOVE it) carrots, peas, even fruits such as peaches and pears. Avoid the thick stuff like banana and custard. This could make the rat gag. Also, get the stage 2 but add some water to it and this will replace the liquids the rat may need.
Let me know what meds the vet puts him on.
