Rats with broken backs

My month old  Special needs rat died because she broke her back from falling at the top of the aquarium.She lived for six hours after and died in my arms. Was there a possibility she could have lived?

I had a rat that broke his back from a 4 foot fall. I adopted him rather than have his owner put him to sleep and he lived another 2 years (he was already 18 months when I adopted him) The owner did not want to pay the vet bill that consisted of X-rays and steroid injections.  He never used his back legs again, but he propelled around pretty good.  The answer is yes, they can survive a broken back, however, if the ribs were broken and the lungs were punctured or there was internal damage or internal bleeding, this would be the probably cause of death.  I am very sorry your rat died. She was very young.
