Question
hello,
i have two male fancy rats which i bought from a breeder about 6 weeks ago. ive had rats before so i know how it goes roughly. i had them in quite a small cage at first, they were sparring as normal and this didnt bother me, but recently it has gotten worse, so i bought a much bigger cage for them and after the first night in the new cage, my little boy(who has always bullied the bigger one) has bitten my bigger boy and he has a patch of fur missing and a cut.
i really dont want to seperate them but i dont know how to stop them fighting. i put them in seperate cages next to each other for one night and then i put them back together to see and it little one went for the big one immediatly. its really upsetting me that ther not getting along. there brothers and ahve been together their whole life. please help me, thankyou

Answer
Sometimes during puberty, boys get overwhelmed and hormonal and then all chaos breaks loose. Have you considered neutering one or both of them? Neutering is a great way to nip that in the bud and end a lot of the squabbling. It might help kill that hostility between them, and they'd be able to live together still. Otherwise, I'm not real sure they'll ever get over it; and to me, I'm uncomfortable putting warring boys together.. minor turns major really quick.
