Bald Patches On Tail.

My younger male rat; Stinky, seems to be developing bald patches on his tail. The skin underneath is white and it seems as if the one patch seems to be spreading slowly on his tail. He has no other signs of losing hair anywheres else on his body and has been acting like himself. His cage is always in best of conditions and there have been no changes in bedding or diet since I've gotten him. Please help I am starting to become very concerned.

Bald from hair (as there is already very little on the tail), or does it look as though the skin is sloughing off? Smell his tail - is it exceptionally gross smelling? Any bleeding? Any crusty/scabby appearance?

It's hard to say without seeing it; unfortunately.. have you noticed him overgrooming his own tail lately?
