Small mammal Vets

Question
Hello,

Thank you in advance for answering my question. Are there any other exotic certified vets in Massachusetts (or even Southern NH) besides the vets at Angell Animal Medical Center? I don't live too far North of Boston but the commute getting into the city can be nuts and time consuming and I'd be willing to travel a farther distance mile wise if overall it's a less stressful trip for my rats as well as me.

Thanks!

Answer
I have several other vets in the Boston area, although they have a strong interest in exotics, they are not avian/exotic specialists like they are at Angells (there are two there) in fact I do believe that they are the only two board certified avian/exotic vets at a clinic that has micrsurgical  instruments for small mammals and state of the art equipment for surgery and diagnostics in the entire state of Massachusetts.  However, there is Tufts, if you want to consider a vet school.

You can contact the following Vet:
Dr. Julie DeCubellis
Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine
telephone-508-839-5395

Also, one very good clinic that comes to mind is listed below. Although the vets here are not certified avian/exotic Vets, they do have a strong interest in exotic medicine and dedicate their time learning and keeping up to date on latest information by attending conferences and workshops etc... and do have an exotics department dedicated to our little small mammal friends. These vets can be just as knowledgeable if not more, than certified avian/exotic vets (depends on how in depth the individual chooses to go when it comes to rat care etc...) truth is, not all avian/exotic vets are great with rats, some focus more on birds and know the basics about rats. Its really best to ask, although the clinics I have listed here are supposed to be good with all small mammals.  Its worth checking out the place below:

Dr. Victoria Papscoe
Littleton Animal Hospital

Please let me know how it goes and I would love to hear feedback on your experience with any of the places you do end up going to with your furry baby.
