Question
My 2 rats yawn alot. I have had them a few months and they just wont let me hold them without trying to run. I try to let them smell my hand but they just bite my finger. The yawning makes me nervous. They seem fine but yawn ALOT. They are picky eaters. They only will eat popcorn and a few of the seeds out of the seed mix and dog biscuits. I have tried Yogurt drops, carrots, fig newtons, pita bread, peanuts, cheese curls, cherries, grapes. They just don't seem to like anything. Any help appreciated.

Answer
I'm not sure what to make of the yawning, to be honest.  I've never heard of rats that yawn a lot and I wouldn't know what to suggest.  Most rats yawn when they wake up from a nap and don't tend to do it more often than that.  I can't think of a reason why they would yawn more.

The running around is probably a combination of their personalities as well as how they were raised.  If you got them from a pet store they are probably not well socialized and are not as tame as they should be.  They may also just be hyper and like to explore.  Females tend to be more hyper as well, so if they are girls that is probably part of it.

As for the food, you need to give them some proper lab blocks made for rodents.  Harlan Teklad, Oxbow Regal Rat, and Mazuri are three good brands.  Keep their dish filled with blocks; they will eat when they are hungry, they won't starve themselves because they are picky.  You can still give them fresh foods daily but I wouldn't give them cheese, it gives rats diarrhea.  Stick to fruits, veggies, and cooked meats.  Table scraps are usually good for rats too.

I hope that helped, good luck with your rats!
