Question
QUESTION: The ask a followup question thing isn't working so I just decided to send a
new one.

So I read the whole bottom part about tumors cause of the picture.....

I don't think there is an exotic vet here...but if you can find one that would be
great, I took a quick look.

The vet I go to now is pretty good with them, I know one of the ladies has
rats of her own I just don't know how good they are at treating them.

Um....At this size is it able to be removed?
If it is is it even worth removing because of how old he is?
Would it cause more damage?
I dunno how I feel about having him walk around with a huge tumor on his
head....
Is it possible it could be a cyst?

I have a billion and 2 questions. those are just some of them if you could
answer a few..ugh.

I am aiming to bring him to the vet on wednesday so I will let you know what
they say when I get back.

Thanks
Monica.

ANSWER: It could be a cyst....I am hoping it is.... the vet can aspirate it and find out.

There are exotic vets in Canada, but where are you located?

As for age, we even operate on rats that are 3 years old with success!!As for asking questions, please ask away. That is why I am here!

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: I took pinky to the vet today. He was pretty squirmy when they had to take a
look and squeeze it and stuff. So they took him to the back to poke it with a
needle and see what was in there.
So they gave him some gas, shaved it so they could get a good look at it. She
said blood came out, so as of right now she's going with its a hematoma
because of the fact that its so circular and there doesn't seem to be any
bone...somethingsomething tumor. i cant remember that part. But if it were cancerous it would be lumpy and not as cemetrical.

SO theres that.
she said it should go down in 4-8 weeks....and if it starts to get larger than
we need to bring him in.
If it starts to hurt theres a med we can get to help inflammation and lower
the swelling.

Apparently anything atop a rats head is very uncommon, so i think thats why
she didn't jump to cyst or tumor. Which is good.

although i still shall worry until his little head it flat like its supposed to be.

Answer
I wish you knew what the "something something tumor" was.

The good news is they aspirated blood and fluids but I would also like to know what other fluids there were in the lump.

Why do they feel it should go down in 4 to 8 weeks?  No medication was used, nothing for inflammation?  No steroids?  Was anything used now?  Is it going down since they aspirated the fluids from it?  If it hasnt gone done the minute they did it, why do they think it will go down at all without medication?  Is it supposed to absorb into the tissues?
