Question
hi sandra, my hairless male has two pus sacks located on either side just below his forelegs on the ribcage. they have no dilineated shape, just two odd masses. sometimes, they emit pus when squeezed, but this is painful to him. sometimes, they come to a head of purplish color and then emit bloody pus. what could they be and what should i do? heat compress? thanks.

Answer

Hairless rats are super prone to abscesses since they tend to get scratches easier than furred rats do.

What you can do after the pus is all expressed is to clean out the area with hibiclens which you can get from Walmart and pack it in neosporin.

What color is the pus and is there a strong odor?
