Whenever i hold my rats they scratche me as they have big nails will i get plague or anyother disease. They are white in colour and very adorable. they even lick my hand i always make a point to wash my hands pls reply what to be done. I have got big big marks in my hands b'coz of there nails. I am really afraid nw as my frnds are telling me i shld check with a dctr. pls reply me soon

Your pet rats are not going to give you any disease, even if they bite you!!!!!

First of all, rats do not carry the plaque and when there was that big outbreak, it was from the fleas NOT the rats.  Rats are cleaner than a pet dog or pet cat and in fact, the muck on your hands carries more germs than your pet rat ever will carry.  My rats lick me, give kisses, scratch me and I have been bitten too many times to count, esp when handle rats that were not mine but were brought to me when they were sick etc...  

Do not listen to anyone about this...  trust me, I know.
