My poor rat!

Question
QUESTION: I am the owner of 4 rats. However I came across an issue with one of them. She is much like a loner, and tends to "bite" to show her frustration, and her, "I want to be left alone" right now reactions.

Myra, (the rat I am concerned about.) Hasn't bitten me like that in some time, 6 months or so, till just recently. I happened to be picking her up out of the large aquarium I have her in now. As I was lifting her, she decided she didn't want to be and bite me. My reaction was to pull my hand away and I sent her flying. She landed with a thud and now is practically crawling.

I am concerned for her, however don't have the money to spend on an exotic or small animal clinical bill. I have diluted .3mg's of Advil into her water to help her with the pain and separated her from the other three rats, Clover, Sakura, and Grey Matter, (named after her intelect.)

She's now in a long aquarium with aspin bedding and water in a dish instead of the feeder to make it easier on her. Is there anything I can look for or can to to make her life easier, and is there anything I can do to make her reccovery quicker?

ANSWER:
Sadly, rats are killed this way.  Its often a natural reaction on our part to pull away when we get bit by our rat,  but the end result is often fatal to the rat.  I was trained to "take the bite" no matter how hard it was or how badly it hurt to avoid sending the rat flying and I have sustained plenty of nasty bites, mostly from scared lab rats who, by rights, hated human contact after being subjected to painful jabs and stabs at a Vet school.  I have nerve damage in my right hand from deep puncture wounds and remember standing there, blood just oozing from the bite, and had to wait till the rat let go before pulling away. Its hard to do, but it has been embedded in my head that I MUST endure this for the safety of the little animal, be it a rat, hamster, mouse, whatever little rodent it may be from.

I have lost count of the rats that were brought in with internal injuries that needed put to sleep.

She could have a broken back, broken legs or internal injuries. She truly needs to be seen by a Vet to find out if she is suffering or not and if so, the only decision would be is to have her humanely euthanized.

She may just have a sprain, however, and its virtually impossible for me to know without an exam in person.

Is she eating, drinking, able to lift her head and move around or is she just laying there, still?

Its NOT your fault, so please do not blame yourself.  Its a natural reflex for someone to pull away from painful stimuli, like if we touch something hot and pull away, this is the same thing.  I just told a friend of mine that had said her boy bit her and she feared he would do it again that she needs to remember NOT to pull away or it may send Scrappy flying across the room, which may result in serious, if not fatal injuries.

Please let me know her status.

QUESTION: She just stood up on her hind legs! Myra did. Her left foot on further inspection is swollen. She seemed to respond very well to me petting her behind her ears. I was scared to touch her because I feared hurting her, however she seems very active over the course of only three hours. "From when I got home from work 8:15pm, to 11:34pm." She is currently sitting cleaning her swollen paw.

I hope this with my last message help you come up with an idea of how she is.

Answer
That is AWESOME!!!!!!  YES!

The foot, there is nothing that a vet will do but of course I wont tell you NOT to take her if you want to.

However, you can give her the childrens ibuprofen for the inflammation, this may help too.

30 mg/lb  every 4 hrs
