Question
We have a blue & gold that we have owned for 25 yrs. we thought him to be a male, however as of Thanksgiving "he" has been laying eggs!!! as of today 12/30/06 we're at egg # 6. We keep the bird in a nice large cage, feed with fresh fruit, veggies nuts, seeds... we are worried about this and want to know how to stop this or what we should do. The local bird Dr. said the eggs could become too large, rot and then things will become serious. Do you have any ideas thanks.

Answer
hello,
make sure you have bird gravel the kind that they eat that will help to make sure she wont get egg bound. also don't leave the eggs in the cage. it wont hurt her to lay eggs just make sure she doesn't get egg bound that is when the egg doesn't come all the way out she can die from that. if you want you can get her spayed that will make her not lay eggs.
