Question
My Greenwing macaw, Mason, is nearly two years old and I see that his beak is growing and needs to be trimmed, but he is constantly scratching the bottom beak and rubbing it on his perch and cage..and loves it when I scratch it.  Is this normal or could he have a serious problem? He doesn't seem to have any other problems, other than presently molting

Answer
Hello Dee and thank you for your post.
It is not uncommon for a parrot to love to have its beak scratched and rubbed, but if he need to have his beak trimmed, then you need to get him in to a Certified Avian or an Exotic Animal Vet to have this done soon.  If you let his beak get too long, it could cause serious problems, including stopping him from eating.
As for the molting, this is the time of the year for it.  My house is so filled with feathers (and I vacuum 5 times a day) that I could probably build at least another 5 medium sized birds...lol.

Good luck and God Bless.
