Cockateils strange behavior

Question
My bird is acting a bit strangely. S/he is eating its food regularly, then going to the bottom of the cage.  It will back its bottom right up to the edge of the cage and talk quietly under its breath while it has its tail up in the air.  Then it will go and sit on its top perch and maybe whistle a bit or talk a little bit and then start this process all over again.  S/he is acting a bit "protective" of its cage too - opening its mouth when we approach and has been a bit nippy. The bird is not quite two years old and it was hand raised.  It has never laid eggs before.  It is not sleeping any more than usual or any fluffier than usual.
Thank you for your prompt and useful help!

Answer
Hello stephanie and thank you for your post.
It sounds like your bird is a SHE, and SHE is getting ready to lay eggs.  This is the time of year for this, and she has probably reached the age that she is ready to lay eggs.  It's nothing to worry about.
Let her sit on her eggs until she either pushes them out of the way or quits sitting on them all together.  This will usually take about a month, but in some instances it is a shorter amount of time.  After this period, she should go back to being her old self.

Good luck and God Bless.
