Question
My Bella has always been so sweet since the day i brought her home at 4 months...but all of a sudden she is running over in her cage to bite me when i feed her, and doing the same when i put her cover over her cage at night and recently when she was sitting with us at breakfast, she reached over and bit my ear viciously...it's just not like her...what can i do??  This is my first large bird, and i'm not sure what to do...she also doesn't have her wings clipped, does that make a difference?

Answer
Clipping wings is always the best thing to do when there is a behavior problem. Flying gives the bird a sense that it is in charge and doesn't have to listen to you. She's just going through the "You're not the boss of me" stage, which is totally normal. When she bites you, put her in her cage and leave the room with no eye contact or talking. Come back in a few minutes and take her out again. Keep putting her back in her cage when she bites, and she'll soon learn that biting only gives her time alone in her cage. A great thing to purchase would be a small cage with no toys or food/water in it. Use this as the "time out" cage because some birds will then learn to bite when they want to go back to their cage to play. If you use a separate cage for time-outs, the bird will never learn this "trick".
