Question
We was given a green parrot by my neighbor thinking that its a male parrot. In this case if it is a male parrot, can the male parrot also lay eggs? We know for the fact that parrot with the green and red is a male and the red with the purple is the female. But the question is, can a the male parrot also lay eggs???? I need to know the answer

Answer
hi. thanks for your question.

no, a male bird can most certainly not lay eggs. if so, it would be some kind of miracle! when you say you know "for a fact" that one is a male and one is a female, i am wondering if they have been DNA sexed.  that is the only way to tell if birds are male or female for sure (besides the fact that only females can lay eggs). the only parrots that i know of where you can tell the sex difference just by looking is an eclectus parrot. it almost sounds to me like that is what you have (eclectus males are green/females are purple and red).  anyway, whichever one laid the eggs is most certainly the female! hope this helps, alicia
