weaning blue and gold macaw

Question
I have just purchased a 12 week old blue and gold macaw, he is still on hand rearing formula and is being fed 3 times a day with a syringe. when he is feeding he does not bob his head (i have hand reared plenty cockatiels and they have always bobbed the head when being syringe fed) I asked the breeders advise on this and he said he just opened his mouth and syringe the soft food in. I have been doing that but he sometimes fetches quite a bit back up, he seems happy enough but because he never seems to be interested in food i don't know if he is getting enough, i am feeding him 80 mgms 4 times a day as instructed by the breeder, i also have a mix of pellets and parrot mix on the floor of his cage which he is picking up and playing with. he has started to fly a little and he is perching ok do you think he is ready for weaning? some advise would be gratefully accepted, Yvonne

Answer
hello,
it sounds like he wants to get weaned, but he still has a few more weeks. Just make sure he has some pellets and parrot food available all the time and continue hand feeding. If he starts eating  more pellets and parrot food start to slow down on hand feeding.
hope this helps you and if you have anymore ?S just ask.
also if you can please give me a rating.
