Red Lored Amazon Growling noise

Hi! I have a 15 year old Red Lored Amazon who in the past few years just started making this growling noise with his head low and close to my body and his tail high in the air while he is next to or on my shoulder. If I had to guess it would seem as if this has something to do with mating, but I am not sure. Really the only time that he does this in in the Spring time. Am I on the right path in thinking this has something to do with mating?  Is this okay for him to be doing or should something be done so he doesn't do this anymore?  Thank you so much for being available and for your time, it is greatly appreciated!

Yes, you're absolutely on the right path in your thoughts. The only thing is that this is more typical of a female (tail in the air and the noise is probably like a human would sound if they 'rolled R's' - hard to describe in print).
Are you sure it's a boy? DNA tested?
