Question
The owner never gave his bird proper attention.  how do I stop him from bitting and being bad.  Screaming all the time.

Answer
I think you're doing a very good thing in rescuing this lucky and magnificent macaw. I'll do whatever I can to support you through behavior modification (and we'll start with not calling him 'bad').

A macaw (or any bird) has to learn what is hurtful, neglectful or potentially threatening and then hold on to that memory for a long time, if not a lifetime. Their survival depends on it - in the wild, they rarely get a second chance to learn these lessons (the predators make sure of that).

Patience and understanding the world from the macaw's point of view will make things much easier. Behavior modifications are usually for the human - and not really complicated.

They don't give me a lot of room to post the details and step by step here so I've got it for you here: http://www.geocities.com/animalrelief_info/

I've also got photos of our macaws' set up so you'll have a better guideline.
email me direct from there or return here if you need anything else ok?

Also, let me know (if you know) how old the Scarlet is and how long he's been with you.
