Question
I clipped my parrots nail a little to close...not so close I think he needs a vet...Any ideas how to try to stop the bleeding here at home?

Answer
Hi, Jennifer.  Thanks for posting.  I certainly hope the bleeding has stopped by now!

To stop bleeding, you can use baking flour (yes, the flour you might have in your cupboard at home), probably even corn starch, or a product sold in the dog section at the pet store to stop bleeding when a dog's nail is cut too close (has different names but comes in a small plastic bottle/jar).  You can also just put pressure on the end of the nail, like you would to a bleeding cut on a human, until the bleeding stops.  I've even used vaseline to coat the entire end of the nail until the blood clots.  You can also cauterize the end of the nail, but most people don't have a cauterizer at home.
