QuestionHi, I want to buy a pair of sun conures for breeding, but I live in Saudi arabia and DNA testing here is very expensive. I read that you can see a smaller, rounder head with a female, maybe brighter red/orange. I really want to make sure I get two great birds of the opposite sex.
Thanx
AnswerHello Sumaya and thank you for your post.
There are only two ways to tell for sure if a bird is male or female. One way is a DNA Test, and the other way is to wait until the bird reaches maturity and lays eggs (usually at around 2 years of age).
You can try to visually tell by looking at the two side by side. The female might have a wider stance (allowing for the cyrvex) than the male, but it is such a small difference that it is very hard to tell.
Good luck and God Bless.
