Question
QUESTION: hi,

i have recently bought a 10 week old grey and his beak is really warm. is this normal?

kind regards

dawn

ANSWER: Baby birds have a higher metabolism than their adult companions and this may contribute to what seems to be a warmer beak (and feet).
As long as he's alert, active, eating, drinking and behaving normally, you probably don't have anything to worry about.
Still, since he's new, you should have his first appointment with the vet you'll be using for him pretty soon.

QUESTION: Hi
Thankyou for you help,  can i just say he does drink but not alot,  how much should they drink? ive put his water in a bowl and its at the same level as the perch is that right ?

many thanks once again

Answer
I'm sure you're doing fine. As long as he has fresh, clean water available all the time, he'll drink when he needs to.  Keeping the food/water bowls at perch level or above is so they don't poop into the bowls.  If you ever see any debris in the water bowl, just change it.

Some birds load up on water in the early hours of the day and again later in the afternoon, hardly drinking throughout the day.  Some take sips throughout the day. Keep in mind that your bird also gets a lot of hydration from fresh foods like fruits and vegetables. Offer slices of oranges and apples, peaches, mangoes, pineapple and such.  The fruit to never let a bird have is avocado. Make sure to stay aware of ingredients in dips you might have. No avocado.

I truly appreciate knowing that this lucky bird has an attentive and caring owner like you.  Ask anything, anytime.  Don't forget to see my site!
