Pair of birds

Question
I have an 8 year old bird (approximately). I recently got a bird about one year old. I put them both in the same cage, and they're showing signs of bonding.

Is the age difference to much to breed? I'm still thinking about whether its a good idea to breed, but I don't know if the ages are too far apart.

Thanks.

Answer
The age difference isn't too much, depending upon the kind of bird. Before thinking of breeding, take them both to the vet for full exams including blood testing. You don't want to accidentally pass on a genetic defect or disease! Also make sure to have your vet teach you to hand feed-and PRACTICE on real birds! Lots of breeders will let other people help feed their babies (they enjoy the break). Do this even if you plan on the babies being parent raised because first-time parents often will not feed the baby or not take care of them properly, so you have to be ready.
