Question
Thank you so much for the response. it was very helpful. This is my first Grey and anything is helpful. I have her on Harrison's food. It is organic with no persevatives. About twice a day I give her some fresh fruit and vegtables. Usually apples and carrots. Still trying to find out what she likes best. Please if you have any other suggestions on her diet let me know. I'm just glad to know she is ok.

-----Question-----
I have a 7 month old African Grey and I noticed her red tail feathers seem to be falling out. I'm thinking she may just be lacking something in her diet. Other than that she is fine. Don't seem to be sick or anything. Thank you so much for being there for us that have questions.
-----Answer-----
Hi, Denise.  Thanks for posting!

I'd say your grey is going through it's first molt.  First molts occur at about 6-7 months of age, then a second molt will occur at about 12 months of age.  After the 12 month molt, your bird should molt once per year (in the fall).

What type of diet do you have your grey on?  If all seed, we need to talk!  All-seed diet is NOT good at all.

Answer
Hi again, Denise.

I've never used Harrison's, but if it's seed, it's not good for your grey.

The more variety in her diet, the better.  Apples and carrots are not enough.  She needs a variety of all kinds of foods, such as pasta (without the sauce), whole grain breads/cereals (cereals without sugar, such as Grape Nuts and the like), all types of veggies and fruits (some parrots like these chopped, some like them shredded, some cubed, some sliced...you need to find how your grey likes it's food served!), cooked brown rice, corn bread, etc., etc.  Visit my website for more information on diet:
