Question
i have a scarlet male and a greenwing when i bought them i was told they were both male but 1 day i noticed an egg in the bottom of the cage. i would never have crossed them if i had known. but i put a nest box up so the female greenwing layed 2 more eggs 1 got broke and she hatched the other one.this is my problem. i have talked to other breeders and they say not to worry but i do the baby will be 2 months the 8th of april and it hasnt started to stand it holds its legs out from it. sometimes it holds 1 under it .it is a lot bigger than most babys its age.and no its not malnurished because i have fed the parents pretty bird, zupreemhand-feeding formula with boiled eggs mixed with prime and quikon multivitamin, and egg biscuits i called a vet and he said to give it time but im still worried and the nearest avain vet is 2 hrs away from where i live.is this normal for a baby macaw

Answer
Hello Ray.  Thank you for posting.
Your baby Macaw may have splay leg.

Here are a few links to explain what splay leg is and how it can be corrected.

You'll find these sites helpful, but do take the baby to a Certified Avian Vet.  Even though it is such a long drive, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Good luck and God Bless.
