amazon parrot-problem with feathers

Hi Carol,  I have had my yellow nape, Jake for 18 years.  He has always been healthy and well-adjusted with beautiful feathers.  In the last month he seemed to be itching and lightly chewing on himself so that his body, legs and under his wings look very dull, and scruffy. He is not biting himself or pulling out his feathers completely, but there is definitely something wrong.  I tried showering him more often because he loves that but it has not helped. His diet has not changed, he eats fruits, vegetables, pretty much anything I eat at dinner and lafebers nutri-berries.

I'm not a vet, so I can't be 100% sure, especially if I don't physically see him, but it sounds like he may have a bacterial skin infection. Take him to the vet and as long as his weight hasn't changed, have them take a skin sample. Skin conditions are pretty easy to fix, so everything should be fine. Hopefully everything turns out OK!
